What is your passion? What activity fulfills your creativity? Whether it's playing the guitar, making a short film, working with clay, or building a theatre set, we encourage students to explore the Arts here at The Governor's Academy.
The Arts are a regular part of our daily life. Around campus, student artwork, photography, pottery, and architectural design is displayed in our art galleries, the student center, the dining hall, our academic buildings, and our dorms. Musicians play during Friday morning meetings and Wednesday's chapel meeting. Formal art exhibits, musical concerts, plays, and dance productions all take place throughout the school year.
Whether you have years of experience, or have never taken an Arts class, we encourage all students to explore painting, drawing, architecture, photography, film, ceramics, music, acting, technical theatre, and dance. We hand the tools to our students, and guide them every step of the way.
Freshmen take a year-long Introduction to Fine Arts course, which exposes them to a new Arts discipline each quarter. Through enjoyable projects and hands-on experiences, students gain confidence trying something new. Many students will then go on to take more advanced Arts courses during their sophomore, junior, and senior years.
The Academy's state-of-the-art facilities allow students to work in a professional environment, whether they are learning printmaking or recording their own music. Students have access to professional audio, video, recording, theatrical, and artistic tools, materials, and resources. Our dynamic and energetic faculty have all worked extensively in each of their respective fields, and continue to pursue their craft as time off-campus allows.
